Q - Nance, how has owning the Tactile Sound Table changed things for you?

A - Adding the Tactile Sound Table to my clinic has increased my business by offering my patients something new to try. It has also enhanced treatments like Crystal Healing, Reiki, Reflexology and Massage, plus many patients enjoy just laying on it holding the Egyptian Healing Rods and getting into a deep meditation.

Q - Can you share some of the comments and reactions by your clients in regards to their sessions on the Tactile Sound Table?

A - All of my patients enjoy the sound table, they find it very relaxing. In fact, at one open house, I had a patient who did not want to get off the bed (table). The open house was finished and I had to tell her to let herself out when she was finished, as I had a patient to attend to. She said she has never felt so relaxed. She comes regularly just to lie on the table.

Q - What type of bodywork / modalities do you (or others at your Centre) do and how does the sound table help you do that work?

A - We specialize in Pain & Stress Relief using the low level laser, SCENAR, Laser Acupuncture, MILTA, and Electro-dermal Massage. We also offer REIKI, Crystal healing, Reflexology, RMT Massage, Egyptian Head & Neck Massage. We have several clients who want all treatments to be done on the sound table. I do find that all therapies are enhanced and responses are much quicker when done on the sound table. I think that the relaxation of the vibration and the sound helps the patient's central nervous system and creates the rest and repair or parasympathetic healing response.

Q - Have you considered using the low level frequency CDs from Olav Skille as treatment for healing and pain management? They would be a complimentary fit for what you do at the Clinic.

A - I would love to incorporate sessions with those CDs here at the clinic. I look forward to learning more about them and experiencing them when you are teaching at the clinic in August.

Q - What kind of setup do you have with your table in your treatment room?

A - I have the basic set up you sent me which was very easy to set up, thanks to your excellent directions.

Q - What music do you like to use?

A - I use mostly the calming, relaxing music with almost all of my patients. We use the Balance CD by David Ison quite often and I personally like Lotus (Bali) by Jalan Jalan, Stephen Kent’s Landing CD and Weave by Hon in the table. One of our massage therapists uses a Solitudes CD for a treatment and found it enjoyable.

Q - Has the sound table helped to increase your Client base?

A - Yes, I would say it has captured interest and that many patients talk about it to others, as it is unique and pleasant for them. We charge an extra $15 for people who want their therapy done on the sound table, and we charge $1 a minute for people who just want to lie on the table for relaxation. This allows us to work on one patient in one room and have another relaxing on the table. (Just to let potential buyers know you can make your investment back very quickly.)

Q - How do you market your Centre and the Table?

A - We do open houses, I do advertising, send out flyers, networking, and through referral programs for my patients.

Q - Nance, is there anything else you would like to share with us?

A - Just thank-you for all the hard work yourself and Deborah have done and continue to do. The work you do is so very important to all of us on this planet and beyond. Also thank-you for creating this amazing healing tool.

    ----------

Nance thank you so much for taking time out to share with us and thank you for all the work you do and your contributions to the Health and Wellness field. We look forward to teaching at your Centre in August.

    Tactile Sound Massage Table

Vibroacoustic Therapy and Its Effect on Various Populations - Part 7

Introduction: The first experiences with VAT, as we know it today, were carried out in 1980 when I was working as headmaster of a school for multiply handicapped, mentally retarded children. 1987 - 1990 I ran a clinic which offered VAT to clients who came to the clinic because of various complaints, some of them were referred to VAT by their physicians.

From 1980 until today the method has spread out to different institutions, and now VAT is used to improve the life quality of persons suffering from a wide variety of complaints and handicaps. On the following pages I will try to describe how we have approached some defined conditions. Most results come from my own work, or the work of my assistants, but I also include results described in reports from professionals (nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, teachers in special education, psychologists and music therapists) in Norway and other countries.

The conditions treated by VAT differ considerably from the conditions, which traditionally are treated by Music Therapy and Music Medicine, as we know them today. As VAT has a direct physical effect on the whole human body - and virtually has an effect on each single cell in the organism, it is natural that we can observe effects which cannot be observed, or can only be traced, when we use auditively transferred musical stimuli.

    Rett syndrome

Staff in Harperbury Hospital and the British Rett Society have started a program in which the use and effect of VAT is studied. The combination of VAT and physiotherapy is very promising, and one has observed both a reduction in rigidity, increased mobility and reduction of the plucking hand movements in the patients. Preferred frequency area is below 60 Hz.

    Spasticity

Treatment procedures, choice of music and frequencies as described under Cerebral palsy (40 and 60 Hz area) apply to most spastic conditions. Combination between VAT and physiotherapy is very effective.

Relaxing music without marked rhythm is to be preferred, but the music chosen should be agreeable to the patient.

    Muscular over-use syndrome

Muscular pains because of too intensive training and physical strain because of work or competitions respond favourably to VAT used without combination with other approaches. It appears to us as if VAT helps the organism to get rid of the waste products which are accumulated because of muscular over use, and thus activate the self-repairing systems in the body.

Music is chosen according to the taste of the patient treated, and frequencies are chosen according to the size of muscular groups, in which the main pains are situated. Large muscle groups need the lowest frequencies; small muscle groups need faster vibrations.

As we seldom find only one kind of painful muscles, it is recommended to use multi-frequency tapes with frequencies ranging from 35 to 68 Hz.

This is part 7 of an article which will be continued in upcoming newsletter issues.
